Care guide

Moissanite is a hard, stable stone. Most of what shortens the life of a piece of jewellery happens to the metal and the setting, not to the stone.

Cleaning

  • Warm water and a drop of mild washing-up liquid.
  • A soft toothbrush, working gently around and behind the stone — that is where film collects.
  • Rinse and dry with a lint-free cloth.
  • Once a month is enough for most pieces. Rings worn daily benefit from more.

What makes a stone look dull is almost always a thin layer of soap, hand cream and skin oil across the underside. It washes off.

Avoid

  • Chlorine and bleach. Hard on metal and on plating. Take pieces off before swimming or cleaning.
  • Impact. The stone will survive it; a prong may not. The gym and manual work are the usual culprits.
  • Ultrasonic cleaners at home, unless you know the setting is sound. They can loosen stones that were already slightly loose.
  • Perfume and hairspray applied over jewellery. Put it on last, not first.

Storing

Separately, and soft-lined. Stones scratch metal, and pieces stored loose together will mark each other. Chains keep better hung or laid flat than coiled.

Checking the setting

Every few months, hold the piece close to your ear and tap it gently. A loose stone sometimes rattles faintly before it comes out. If anything moves, stop wearing it and contact us.
